After the simply named marble “Shell” statue at the Getty Villa, made by an anonymous artist in 325-400BCE. This small form immediately captured my attention when exploring the museum, despite its quiet voice and lack of pedigree. There’s something mysterious and strange about its shape and its unfathomable age (2400 years!) Surely it holds many spirits and secrets. Whose hands stroked its spines in centuries past?
