One late evening in Tokyo, I decided to go for a solo walk along the west bank of the Sumida River. As I strolled, several ferries went by, each glittering with warm lantern lights and the imagined sound of laughter and steaming food inside. I could only make out the dark silhouettes of the ferry passengers, but their unknown stories called to me under the watchful backdrop of the Tokyo Skytree. After they passed, I sat on a bench in silence and fell under the hypnotic trance of the lights reflected in the swells and ripples of the water.
